Children’s Programming & Services

Reading Dragons & Friends

This is a reading program for K-5th graders that runs September through April. Sign up any time!

Here’s how it works:

  • Pick up a special binder from the Children’s Department to get started.
  • Follow the log sheets in the binder to record 30 minute increments of reading.
  • Each 30 minute box will earn you a card of the creature of your choosing, beginning with an egg.
  • Fill out a row of 4 boxes to receive the entire mythical family!
  • You can earn up to 4 full sets of cards per month. Some sets will only be available one month out of the year, so keep your eyes peeled for those rare creatures!
  • You can color your own cards too! Once you have your Color Your Own cards completed, you can bring them back in for us to laminate.

For more information, including fun games you can play with your cards, be sure to stop in and get your binder!

Fishing for a Good Book

In this fun February program, we gather a diverse selection of books and wrap them in plain brown paper. Check one out from the display in the Children’s Department without seeing the cover to discover something brand new. You might just get hooked!

Selected books are geared toward 3rd-5th grade reading levels.

Culinary Club

Culinary Club is an eight week course for kids in 3rd-5th grade. Library Director Liz Rozelle will lead each class in making simple recipes in our new program room! At the end of eight weeks, kids will have a binder full of recipes and their very own apron to take home!

Be sure to follow us on Facebook for the next open registration announcement!

STEM Fridays

Join us once a month for STEM Friday! In this open house-style program for K-5th graders, we’ll have STEM toys available to play with, like Snap Circuits, Botley, LEGO, and more!

View all STEM Friday events here.

1,000 Books before Kindergarten

1,000 Books before Kindergarten is an early literacy program that gives children a head start by already having 1,000 books under their belt when they start kindergarten! This program rewards early readers with small prizes along the way. See our children’s librarian to sign up and start logging the books you read with your child today!

Already participating in 1,000 Books? Check out the app!

Now it’s easier than ever to log the books you read with your child! Instead of keeping track of paper log sheets, you can document your progress in the app and just show it to the children’s librarian! Get more info here.

AWE Learning Computers

Our Children’s Department has two AWE Learning computers available for public use. These workstations are made just for kids and contain award-winning interactive early literacy and STEM/STREAM-aligned content. The computers are touchscreen but are also equipped with kid-sized keyboards.

AWE Learning computers and content are KidSafe seal certified and don’t access the internet, so you can feel secure knowing that your child is learning in a fun and safe environment. Be sure to check these stations out the next time you’re in the library! For more information about AWE Learning, head here.
