Scholarship Guidelines for 2020
The Friends of the Yorktown Public Library Scholarship provides financial assistance for a student who has been influenced positively by the library. All applicants must be qualified for admission to full-time undergraduate study and working toward a degree at a college or university.
Application deadline: January 31, 2020

Applications may be obtained at the Yorktown Public Library, Yorktown High School Guidance Counselors webpage, or right here.
Award Amount
One scholarship of $500 will be awarded. Proof of college enrollment must be provided before scholarship funds are dispersed. Failure to register in a college or university will result in forfeiture of scholarship.
Scholarship Requirements
To qualify for the scholarship, the applicant must:

  • Live within the Yorktown Public Library’s district
  • Be a high school senior with a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Be accepted as a full-time student to an accredited two- or four-year college or university
    Selection Considerations
    Each applicant will be considered for the scholarship on the basis of the following:

  • A submitted 200-word essay describing how libraries have helped him or her achieve academic goals or, in any way, influenced or had an impact on his or her personal life.
  • Previous use of and involvement with the Yorktown Public Library
  • Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree related to literary arts.
  • Preference will be given to students entering in-state colleges or universities.
    Award Ceremony
    The scholarship(s) will be awarded at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Yorktown Public Library in March 2020.

    Attach the required documentation listed below. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Any additional information you wish to include, such as awards, work experience, activities, community service, and/or a letter of recommendation will be considered but is not required, and must be limited to 2 pages.

  • High school transcript.
  • 200 word essay (see above)
